This might be an old clip, but I’m posting it for anyone who uses photoshop who’s not seen it before, purely because I think it’s great! I think I might start watching it every morning before I start work, then I can pretend I’m working for MI5 or something!

Creating an explosion in Photoshop

Very cool. This video proves you can create a fanastic final piece by sticking with it and building up the layers. Interesting to see how the fire ball effect was created with photos of blue sky and white fluffy clouds!

Create a brushed steel effect in photoshop

This tutorial shows an easy 4 step process to creating a brushed steel effect in photoshop. If you have $100 / £50 to spare I recommend buying Eye Candy 5; Imapct, from Alien Skin. Brushed Steel is 1 of a collection of 10 effects which makes up this package. The other effects include Extrude and Backlight and Liquid Metal effects and a Glass filter; perfect for creating those shiny buttons! You can download a 30 day demo here.

Creating Stencils in Photoshop

To create a stencil like the one above good tools and effects to use are; Desaturation, Levels, Brightness & Contrast, and the Graphic Pen or Stamp Filters. I have found that the key issue with creating stencils from photos is the suitability of the original image. You will probably need to try the different effects above in different orders and strengths until you achieve the look you are after. Differing from the video I would use the paintbrush only towards the end of the process to neaten edges and change specific areas.
