Q. When I go to Edit > Define Brush Preset in Photoshop, the option is greyed out and I can’t select this as an option.
A. The most likely explatation is that the image you are trying to define as a brush is over 2500 x 2500 pixels. 2500 pixels square is the maximum size for a brush in photoshop. If you make it 2500 x2500 pixels or less, you should be able to select the Define Preset Option in the Edit Menu.

Hello.
Im stumped.
Im trying to create a custom shape but define custom shape command remains greyed out.
My document is 2500×2500 pix, transparent BG and path is selected with path selection tool.
Unless the problem is file set up connected, i have no idea.
Do you have any advice?
Thanks.
Geoff
Hi Geoff,
I have just tried to replicate your problem, and the only time the ‘define custom shape’ option is greyed out for me is when a raster layer is selected, which doesn’t seem to be the issue if you are able to select the path. As you say it may be document related – I would try to copy and paste the shape into a new document and give Photoshop a restart to clear any settings that may be causing issues. Thanks. Hannah
thanks, this just helped me too ?:-3
thanks for your comment
